DALLAS (AP) — A Dallas man who was in a hospital being treated for a gunshot wound has been arrested after an auto shop owner was killed in a shootout. The Dallas Morning News reports Saturday that 31-year-old Rachard Ramon Angton has been charged in the death of 44-year-old Joseph Taylor. According to an arrest affidavit, Angton and Taylor fire multiple shots at one another on Friday. It’s unclear what prompted the fight at the auto shop.

Plane catches fire landing in Moscow; no injuries 05/18/13 - 1:22pm

MOSCOW (AP) — Part of an airliner carrying more than 130 people caught fire as it was landing in Moscow, and passengers evacuated the plane by jumping off one of its wings and shooting down an evacuation slide. The Emergencies Ministry says none of the passengers and crew members were injured by the fire on the landing gear of the Boeing 737 at Vnukovo Airport on Saturday. A ministry statement said the plane belonging to Russian carrier UTair (YOOT-air) was flying to Moscow from the southern city of Stavropol.

300-pound Texas man dies after police use stun gun 05/18/13 - 12:23pm

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — A 300-pound Fort Worth man died shortly after police fired a Taser stun gun at him during a drug raid. Fort Worth police used the stun gun on 34-year-old Jermaine Darden Thursday because they say he was resisting arrest. The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports Darden died a short time later at a local hospital.

Texas officials find body of missing postal worker 05/18/13 - 11:09am

HOUSTON (AP) — Texas law enforcement agencies have found the body of a missing postal worker in the remains of her burned vehicle in a Houston suburb. U.S. postal carrier Marie Youngblood had used her personal vehicle to deliver mail on her rural route. Investigators found her body late in that car late Friday. The San Jacinto Sheriff’s Department and other investigating agencies say they are looking for 37-year-old James Wayne Ham. They say he is considered armed and dangerous and is a person of interest in Youngblood’s death.

Probe begins after Conn. commuter trains crash 05/18/13 - 10:06am

FAIRFIELD, Conn. (AP) — Two commuter trains packed with rush-hour commuters collided in a crash that sent about 70 people to the hospital, severely damaged the tracks and threatened to snarl travel in the congested Northeast Corridor. Three patients remained in critical condition Saturday morning, with two of those stable, according to officials at two Bridgeport hospitals. The crash happened Friday evening on the Metro-North Railroad, which serves the northern suburbs of New York City. Passengers described a chaotic, terrifying scene of crunching metal and flying bodies.

With its ranks deeply divided, the Boy Scouts of America is asking its local leaders from across the country to decide whether its contentious membership policy should be overhauled so that openly gay boys can participate in Scout units. The proposal to be put before the roughly 1,400 voting members of the BSA’s National Council on Thursday, at a meeting in Grapevine, Texas, would retain the Scouts’ long-standing ban on gays serving in adult leadership positions.

Bradley’s drive on his final hole Friday was nowhere close to getting wet. He instead went well right under trees while bogeying No. 18 for the second day in a row, this time closing a 1-under 69 Friday that gave him a three-stroke lead after two rounds.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — Melissa Torrez didn’t even think when teenagers in her apartment complex said a man had just grabbed her 4-year-old girl and drove away. She jumped in her car and began chasing the brown Buick through traffic, zigzagging on Interstate 40 at high speeds and staying with the car even as it bluffed trying to exit in an attempt to lose her. Many called Torrez a hero after her story came out Wednesday. But Torrez said Friday that she was just a mother following her instincts.
