PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Matthew Schovajsa, Sr., Crosbyton
A four-year starter for the Chiefs, Schovajsa was nearly impossible to get out this season. The shortstop hit an eye-popping .701 (47 for 67) and scored 50 runs. He scored 105 runs in his final two seasons, an average of 2.2 per game. Schovajsa was a first-team all-state selection by the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association, and he played in the THSBCA all-star game.
PITCHER OF THE YEAR
Corie Ramirez, Sr.,
New Deal
Ramirez concluded a stellar three-sport career at New Deal with a dominant senior season on the diamond. He went 7-2 with a 1.55 ERA for a New Deal team that advanced to the regional quarterfinals. Ramirez was also a solid producer at the plate, where he hit .405 and scored 28 runs.
COACH OF THE YEAR
Donnie Scott, Smyer
Scott has turned around a long-dormant baseball program at Smyer and this season led the Bobcats to the first playoff appearance in the 14-year history of the program. After dropping the first game of its bi-district series against Ralls, Smyer won two straight to advance to the area round, where it fell to Fort Hancock.
PITCHER
Jose Martinez, Sr.,
Floydada
Floydada’s senior ace was dominant on the mound this season, posting an 8-3 record with a 1.52 earned run average. Martinez struck out 95 batters in 781/3 innings and surrendered only one home run.

Brennen Fowler, Fr., Smyer
Fowler may have been a freshman this season, but he didn’t pitch like one. The strong right-hander went 5-3 with a 2.11 ERA and 1.34 WHIP. He struck out 85 batters while pitching a team-high 53 innings. Fowler was also the team leader in batting average (.457) and RBIs (35).
PITCHER
Curtis Sanchez, Sr., Roosevelt
The senior was tough to hit this season, posting a 2.33 ERA. Sanchez struck out 88 batters in 48 innings of work and was named a first-team all-District 3-2A pitcher for his performance.
FIRST BASEMAN
Elijah Jackson, So., LCHS
One of several talented underclassmen for LCHS, Jackson hit .346, drove in 28 runs and scored 31. Jackson reached base at a .523 clip and slugged .577. He also had a .920 fielding percentage.
SECOND BASEMAN
Bryce Chapa, Sr.,
Abernathy
Chapa concluded a stellar career with the Antelopes with a sparkling senior season. The second baseman was a district most valuable player and was a first-team all-state selection by the THSBCA.
SHORTSTOP
Ricky Contreras, So., LCHS
Contreras battled through a health scare as a freshman to put together a stellar sophomore season. The strong-armed shortstop hit .407 and drove in a team-high 40 runs. Contreras was also strong in his brief appearance on the mound, posting a 2.40 ERA in 112/3 innings.
THIRD BASEMAN
Taylor McLendon, Jr.,
Morton
The junior hardly met a pitch he didn’t like this season. McLendon hit .576 with four doubles, three home runs and 12 RBIs. He registered a sky-high 1.662 OPS and also recorded a 1.80 ERA in 23 1/3 innings of work on the mound.
CATCHER
Jeremy Mize, Sr., Sundown
The first-team all-District 4-1A backstop was stout defensively for Sundown this season, and he did work at the plate, too. Mize hit .438 to go along with five doubles, four triples and 19 runs driven in.

Kale Wilsford, So.,
Trinity Christian
Trinity Christian struggled this season, but the performance of Wilsford points to a bright future. The sophomore hit .418 with five doubles, one home run and 23 RBIs.

Zach Johnson, Sr., Littlefield
Johnson was an all-district selection after hitting .465 with four doubles, two triples, one home run and 20 RBIs. Johnson reached base at a .617 clip and stole eight bases in nine attempts.

Sal Segura, Sr., Sundown
Segura was a key cog in the Roughnecks’ postseason run. He hit .451 with six doubles, three triples and 21 RBIs. The senior leader reached base at a .507 clip and slugged .645.

Tanner Richey, Jr.,
Borden County
Richey was nearly unstoppable for the Coyotes this season. He set school records in average (.701), on-base percentage (.744) and slugging percentage (1.045). He hit 16 doubles and drove in 32 runs. He also set a school record on the mound with 14 strikeouts in a game.

Andrew Flores, Sr.,
New Deal
Flores was an all-state selection for District 4-1A champion New Deal after hitting .379 and scoring 32 runs. He also posted a 3.58 ERA on the mound, striking out 66 batters in 60 1/3 innings.

Trystan Hilger, So., Tahoka
The District 3-1A most valuable player was a do-it-all threat for Tahoka. Hilger hit .426 with six doubles, two triples, one home run and 20 RBIs. As the staff’s ace pitcher, Hilger went 9-3 with a 4.11 ERA.

Collin Telchik, Sr.,
Borden County
The two-time all-district shortstop hit .544 with 25 RBIs. One of Telchik’s biggest assets was his speed, as evidenced by five triples and 31 stolen bases. He struck out just five times in 68 at-bats.
