A week after the girls season tipped off, the high school boys basketball season gets underway today with an old rivalry.

Just like the teams did in football, Monterey and Coronado will square off to begin the basketball season tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the Coronado Gym. Realignment knocked the rivals into different classifications, with Monterey dropping to 4A while Coronado remained in 5A.

It is the only scheduled meeting between the schools this season.

Lubbock High hits the road to open the season at Amarillo while defending district champion Frenship hosts Midland Lee. In other games, Cooper hosts Kermit, Shallowater hosts Floydada and Trinity Christian is on the road at Canyon.

On the girls side,

Lubbock High and Frenship are at home hosting Brownfield and Randall, respectively, while Monterey is at Caprock and Cooper travels to Wall.

Shallowater, Roosevelt, New Deal and Trinity Christian are all at home while Lubbock Christian is at Post.
