High school basketball roundup: Frenship knocks off No. 5 Wylie

WOLFFORTH — Isaiah Tillman scored 19 points and Frenship posted a 58-53 victory Monday night against Abilene Wylie, the No. 5-ranked team in Class 3A.

Frenship (16-7) built a 17-point lead in the third quarter, then watched it evaporate as Wylie (19-4) made a 10-0 run in the late third and early fourth periods. The Bulldogs whittled it to 56-53 before Frenship’s Hunter Hays hit two free throws with five seconds left for the final margin.

Bradley Mitchell finished with 11 points for the Tigers, and Thomas Martinez was next with eight.

Christian Nichols led Wylie with 16 points, followed by Kentrell Key with 15 points.

Austin Garza added seven points for the Antelopes (7-11), who used nine players after getting four players back recently from injuries or illness. The Antelopes finished one game this season with four players and have been battling with a short bench.

Mason Heald scored 14 points for New Deal, followed by Baylor Bean with 13.

The game was played mostly by the Lady Eagles (13-8) reserves as five players played less than 15 minutes the entire game.
