Devondric Meadows scored 16 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the Mustangs to 50-30 District 2-5A win against Abilene Cooper on Friday night.

Coronado (19-5, 7-1 in 2-5A) jumped out to a 20-4 lead in the first quarter thanks to strong defense.

Christian O’Neal scored eight of his 13 points in the opening quarter to help the Mustangs coast to victory. O’Neal also had five assists and four steals in the win.

ARLINGTON — Luke Stephenson scored 23 points as Trinity Christian opened up district play with a hotly contested road win at Arlington Pantego.

Logan Harrison added 11 points for the Lions and Addison Womack chipped in 10.

Trinity Christian trailed by seven points at the halftime, but it turned up the defensive intensity after intermission and surrendered only 21 second-half points.

Andrews hung with Shallowater through three quarters, but in the fourth quarter Cole Nelson hit two 3-ointers to extend the lead to double digits. Nelson finished the night with nine points, while Micah Bailey added 13 points for the Mustangs.

The Pirates trailed 44-33 entering the fourth, but the Lobos made zero field goals and went 7 for 16 from the free-throw line in the final quarter.

Cooper drove to the rim in the fourth, taking the lead with about four minutes, 30 seconds left in the game.

Despite Rangel’s seven field goals in the win, Indians’ coach Paul Page said what really helped his team was their defense.

“We stretched our zone (defense) and forced them to shoot the ball well,” Page said.

Hunter Weishun added 14 points for Seminole, while Estcado’s Malik Woodruff scored 12 points.

Brendan Wright scored 11 for Roosevelt and Jake Robbins added 10.

Blake Copeland scored 11 points for Slaton and Tyler Jones chipped in 10.
