Ross carries Indians deep into the playoffs

Posted: February 27, 2013 - 11:54pm  |  Updated: February 28, 2013 - 1:24am

Who: Mookie Ross

School: Morton

Class: Senior

Last week: Ross was the catalyst for the Indians’ run to the Class 1A Division I regional quarterfinal round. His play improved as the season progressed, and his consistent scoring was what helped the Indians play some of their best basketball of the season. He poured in 23 points in a bi-district victory over Tahoka, then followed that with 17 points in an area round victory over Christoval.

On the season: Ross has been a top multiple-sport athlete at Morton for several years, making an impact as a sophomore and a junior then stepping up with a huge senior season both in football and basketball. He was by far and away the Indians’ top player, and turned his game up when it was needed most, finishing the year with a 26-point performance in a losing effort in the regional quarterfinals.

Up next: Morton’s season came to an end Tuesday with a 64-61 loss to Smyer in the regional quarterfinals.
