Former Denver City standout receiver Brittan Golden signed a free-agent contract with the Chicago Bears over the weekend, the club announced. Golden played this past season at West Texas A&M, catching 55 passes for 1,078 yards and 12 touchdowns. Teammate J’Marcus Webb was drafted by the Bears in the seventh round of the 2010 draft. Golden finished his career at WT with 3,007 receiving yards on 165 catches and was a first-team all-Lone Star Conference selection as a senior. He was one of 11 free agents signed by the Bears.

Tech grad the finalist for Snyder coach, AD Aubrey Sims, a 1998 graduate of Texas Tech, has been named the lone finalist for the head football and athletic director position at Snyder and will take over that program pending approval from the school board. The board’s next scheduled meeting is Monday. Sims will replace Chad Rogers, who resigned in late March after 11 seasons with the Tigers to take over as the head football coach and athletic director at Class 4A Denison.

When Chad Rogers took over the head coaching duties in Snyder 11 years ago, former coach David Baugh told him to make sure whenever he left the program that it is better than when he arrived. UIL committee denies Shallowater's appeal to drop to Class 2A 02/21/12 - 4:56pm

Shallowater Independent School District lost its appeal to the University Interscholastic League on Monday to move from Class 3A to Class 2A for extracurricular competition purposes. Athletic director Kyle Maxfield said Monday the school had appealed its alignment to the UIL District Alignment Appeals Committee in Austin based on two students at the school district's Woodward Academy, an alternative campus that allows students to learn at a different pace than others if needed.
