BRYAN — Tenaha quarterback and Texas Tech commitment Reginald Davis was named the Class 1A Offensive Player of the Year, while Sundown running back Garrett Carter earned first-team honors on the Texas Sports Writers Association All-State football team released on Tuesday.

Davis, a 6-foot-1, 185-pound senior, passed for 2,015 yards on 101 of 168 with 26 touchdowns and five interceptions. He also carried the ball 172 times for 1,915 yards with 36 TDs in leading the unbeaten Tigers to the Division II title.

Carter was by far the most dominant offensive player on the South Plains in 2011, rushing for 2,560 yards and 39 touchdowns and also catching seven passes for 114 yards and two touchdowns for the Roughnecks.

Four area players earned second-team honors: Springlake-Earth guard Colby Conner and defensive back Elder Rojas, Ralls center Grant James and Sundown defensive back Chad Hodge. Four others, Morton running back Trevor Arthur, Tahoka linebacker Ray Parmer and receiver Pecos Martin and Ralls defensive back Kaleb Reese, were named to the third team.
