AMARILLO — Jake Chester threw for 298 yards and five first-half touchdowns to lead Sudan to a sound victory against Booker, 54-26, in the Region I-2A, Division II, semifinals on Friday night.
Chester, who finished 17-of-25 with an interception, threw scores of 29, 10, 2, 13 and 12 yards as the Hornets took a commanding 35-14 lead into the half.
Touchdown runs by Barry Johnson and Richard Montes in the third quarter put the game well out of reach.
Sudan (11-2) advances to face Wellington in the regional final.
Montes finished with 181 yards rushing, and Johnson added 96 (78 of which came on a long touchdown run).
Chester added a 1 yard plunge in the fourth quarter, as he threw touchdown tosses to Johnson, Bill Nolte, Montes and twice to Dayton Fisher.
Sudan’s Osmar Diaz led the Hornets with 65 receiving yards on four catches.
The Hornets’ big victory overshadowed Booker quarterback Hunter Lile’s record-setting night, where his 360 passing yards put him at 3,995 yards for the season, smashing the Class 1A single-season record of 3,836 set by Tyler Minyard of Bosqueville in 2003
Lile’s favorite target was Jared Reagan, who hauled in 11 passes for 184 yards.
However, Booker could not stop the Sudan offense, which racked up 643 yards of offense on the night.
