Coach led Lady Cats to consecutive state titles in 2010 and 2011
Leland Bearden turned Smyer from a stop on the way to Levelland into a Class 1A girls basketball powerhouse over the course of 15 seasons.
Now, he’s on his way to see if he can do the same thing a little farther south and two classifications higher. Bearden was named Tuesday as the new girls head basketball coach and athletic coordinator at Seminole, replacing longtime coach Dickie Faught.
“It’s just a great opportunity for me and my family,” Bearden said. “It’s a big jump into a tough district, but there are so many opportunities for me and my family over there.”
