City girls high school basketball roundup: Whitley scores 17 to lead Roosevelt girls to first win

ACUFF — Kacie Whitley scored 17 points to lead Roosevelt to a win against Sundown in a non-district game Tuesday.

Whitley hit three 3-pointers and hit a pair of free throws. Roosevelt led by just one point heading into the fourth quarter but pulled away in the final period.

Brielle Gruder scored a game-high 18 points in a losing effort for Sundown.

WALL — Cooper hit its free throws when it mattered most, and that was enough to help the Lady Pirates escape with a one-point win in a non-district game Tuesday night.

Cooper hit 11 of its 13 free-throw attempts in the decisive period. Bridget Rampy scored 14 points to lead the Lady Pirates.

Katy Boren scored 11 points and Summer Bednarz added 10, as Cooper moved to 3-0.

Bobbi Chitsey scored a game-high 18 points in a losing effort for Wall. She hit three of her four 3-pointers in the fourth quarter.

Regan Hoelfcher added 13 points for Wall, which lost for the first time this season.

Cooper was the only Frenship player in double digits, while Joya Lemons tossed in five points.

Frenship will try to pick up its first win of the season Thursday, when it opens play at the Carpet Tech Tip Off Classic against El Paso Irvin at 10 a.m.

Amanda Metzler scored 15 points and August Thompson added 14 to lead Lubbock High to a win against Brownfield in a non-district game Tuesday.

Lubbock High started the game strong, jumping to a 34-21 lead by halftime. The Lady Westerners hit five 3-pointers, including three from Metzler.

Tessa Hope and Lexi Cruz scored nine points apiece to pace Brownfield.

Brownfield hit just 5 of 14 free throws, while Lubbock High hit 11 of its 16 attempts from the line.

Brooklyn Artrs led Caprock with 22 points and Jordan Carrasco added 12.

Frenship will host the Carpet Tech Tipoff Classic this weekend at the Tiger Pit. The Tigers open with El Paso Irvin on Thurstady at 10 a.m.

Morgan Barr led Lee with 12 points and Daija Stanford added 11.

Taylor Osborn led Post with 18 points and Haily Berry chipped in 11.

LCHS’s Kaitlyn Stephenson scored seven points and had three blocks. Race Terry and Brooke Robertson each added six for the Lady Eagles.
