Six-man high school football roundup: Richey's 5 TDs spark Borden County

O’DONNELL — Tanner Richey rushed for three touchdowns and returned two blocked punts, as Borden County rolled past Meadow 60-8 in a Division I bi-district playoff game on Friday night.

Richey scored on a 36-yard run at the 8:39 mark in the first quarter, then returned a punt 55 yards a little more than a minute later for another touchdown and a 13-0 lead for the Coyotes.

Rapheal Urias caught a 7-yard pass from Brandon Flores for Meadow’s only touchdown with 2:25 left to play in the first quarter.

Richey raced 60 yards for another score and then booted one of his six extra-point kicks with 2:15 remaining in the first quarter, before T.J. Vasquez scored on a 22-yard and Ritchey kicked the extra point for a 30-0 lead for Borden County with 52 seconds left to play in the initial stanza.

Richey returned a punt 53 yards to begin the scoring in the second quarter, then added a 21-yard touchdown run with 3:59 left to play before intermission.

Curt Shafer hauled in a 25-yard touchdown pass from Richey at the 2:07 mark to conclude the scoring in a game halted by the 45-point rule at halftime.

The Coyotes improved to 10-2 overall, while the Broncos ended their season at 8-4.

New Home 67

Whitharral 22

ANTON — Josh Paul rushed for 318 yards and seven touchdowns, boosting New Home to a 67-22 victory against Whitharral in a Division II bi-district game on Friday night.

Zach English caught two passes for 72 yards, including a touchdown pass from Zach Paul. The game was halted by the 45-point rule in the third quarter.

Tucker Davis passed for 53 yards and two touchdowns to lead Whitharral, which ended its season a 5-6 overall. Kyle Nichelson caught a 9-yard touchdown pass and Jordan Samsel caught a 4-yard scoring toss from Davis.

The Leopards improved to 9-2 overall.

Petersburg 61

Miami 38

AMARILLO — Petersburg defeated Miami 61-38 in six-man Division I action Friday night.

The Buffaloes (10-1) shared the ball well, with Steven Resendiz, Chris Sharples, and Ryan Smith each scoring two touchdowns apiece.

The Warriors (9-2) got off to a hot start, leading by 10 after the first quarter, but Petersburg would dominate the rest of the game.

Amherst 58, Lorenzo 0

ANTON — Chris Vega passed for three touchdowns and ran for another, powering Amherst to a 58-0 victory against Lorenzo in a Division II bi-district playoff game on Friday night.

Victor Madrid scored on runs of 35 and 60 yards in the first quarter for the Bulldogs, who improved to 6-4.

Vega opened the scoring with a 15-yard touchdown pass to Garet Bigham in the first quarter, then added a 45-yard touchdown pass from Bigham in the second quarter. He also teamed with Madrid for a 60-yard scoring toss in the second quarter as well.

Vega also scored on a 50-yard run in the second stanza and returned a fumble 30 yards for another score.

Lorenzo concluded the season at 5-6.

Balmorhea 66,

Dawson 30

KERMIT — Dawson started off well, scoring first with a 50-yard Nick Garcia touchdown pass to Michael Vera early in the first quarter, but Balmorhea would claim a 66-30 win Friday night in the six-man Division II Bi-District Playoff.

The Dragons ended their season 8-3.

Dawson kept it close through halftime, starting the third quarter down 32-30.

But the Bears started the third quarter with a touchdown on Joseph Matta’s 56-yard kick-off return and Dawson did not score in the second half.

Grandfalls-Royalty 54

Loop 6

KERMIT — Thomas Burns rushed for 84 yards and two touchdowns, helping Grandfalls-Royalty ease past Loop 54-6 in a Division II b-district playoff game on Friday night.

The Cowboys (11-0) tallied 22 points in the second quarter and 32 points in the second quarter before the game was halted by the 45-point rule at halftime.

Leo Ramirez rushed for 134 yards on 11 carries and scored Loop’s only touchdown. The Longhorns concluded their season with an overall record of 7-4.
