High school soccer roundup: Frenship girls soccer cruises to two more wins in home tourney

WOLFFORTH — The Frenship girls soccer team continued to roll through its host tournament on Friday with a pair of wins in the Frenship Cup at Peoples Bank Stadium.

In its first game, Frenship defeated El Paso Bowie, 4-0, behind a pair of goals from Danielle Falcon. Ashley Valderaz and Katlyn Judge added one goal apiece in the victory.

Later in the day, Taya Gomm’s hat trick paced the Tigers to a 4-0 win against Pampa. Valderaz scored the other goal in the victory.

Heading into the final day of competition, Frenship has a commanding lead with 25 points, 10 points ahead of El Paso Andress.

Frenship boys

The Frenship boys notched a win and a tie on the second day of play at the Frenship Cup.

In their early game, the Tigers defeated Borger, 5-1, behind a pair of goals from Dakota Parrish. Thomas Herrera, Trae Exum and Carlose Ajeakwa also scored in the victory.

In the nightcap, Frenship and Canyon finished at a 1-1 draw. Brando Gonzales scored the lone goal for the Tigers in that game.

Monterey boys

ABILENE — The Monterey boys opened the 2013 season with a pair of wins in tournament play in Abilene.

The Plainsmen (2-0) opened the tournament with a 6-1 win over Abilene Wylie. Kingsley Akendeu had a pair of goals while Cobi Faz had a goal and two assists. Jordan Gutierrez, Nolan Davis and Matt Casares each had a goal.

Tino Gamueda earned the win in goal, stopping 10 shots.

Later in the day, Gamueda had five saves in a 4-0 shutout win over Abilene High JV. Faz, Gutierrez, Matt Carmona and Davis Williamson each had goals.

The Plainsmen continue play in the tournament with pool play against Abilene High today at 12:30 p.m.
