Claudia Sanchez scored three goals and notched an assist to lead the Monterey girls’ soccer team past city rival Lubbock High 6-1 on Tuesday night in both teams’ District 7-4A opener.
Desirae Morales scored two and Mercedes Perez added one for Monterey (6-2-5, 1-0-0 in District 7-4A).
Sonny Narvaiz had two assists for the Lady Plainsmen, who play at San Angelo Lake View at 5 p.m. Friday, while Perez, Chach Olivarez and Hannah Dean each notched an assist of their own.

Kaitlyn Judge scored two goals to pace Frenship past San Angelo Lake View, 4-1, in District 7-4A play on Tuesday night.
Ashley Valderaz and Kelsey French each scored one for the Tigers (11-1, 1-0 in District 7-4A).

Tino Gamueda stopped a penalty kick in the 70th minute and picked up his ninth shutout of the year in Monterey’s 3-0 victory against Lubbock High on Tuesday night.
Kingsley Akendeu scored two goals and Cobi Faz added one for the Plainsmen (10-3-2, 1-0-0 in District 7-4A play).
Ryan Kissinger and Matt Carmona each notched assists in the victory. Monterey plays at San Angelo Lake View at 7 p.m. Friday.
