PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Lauren Heinrich, Jr., Cooper
The West Texas A&M commitment led Cooper to its second undefeated district season and first appearance in the regional semifinals. The hard-throwing right-hander went 22-7 with a 1.14 ERA and 268 strikeouts in 178 innings. She also earned her first all-state honor.
PITCHER OF THE YEAR
Nikki Box, Sr., Tahoka
The senior hurler led Tahoka to a District 5-1A title in 2011 and struck out more than 800 batters in her four years with the Lady Bulldogs. Box also hit .421 with a .500 on-base percentage for Tahoka, which was ranked as high as fourth in the state.
COACH OF THE YEAR
Landon Winton, Cooper
Winton's Lady Pirates were the only team on the South Plains to reach the regional semifinals. Cooper's playoff run was the deepest in program history and followed its second consecutive undefeated district season.
PITCHERS
Gabby Gloria, So., Estacado
Gloria was as good at the plate as she was in the circle for the Lady Matadors. The sophomore posted a 2.19 ERA with 172 strikeouts and batted .500 with five home runs and 25 RBIs. Gloria hit safely in every game this season.
Kelsea Horton, Sr., Lubbock Christian High
The senior went 16-4 with a 3.27 ERA in 105 innings of work, striking out 118 batters against 38 walks. Horton, a Lubbock Christian University signee, also batted .500 with 53 RBIs and 12 doubles.
Tabytha Cedillo, Jr., Ralls
Cedillo had pitched just one varsity game entering the 2011 season. Despite her inexperience, she went 17-8 with a 3.10 ERA for the Lady Jackrabbits, striking out 192 batters in 149 innings.
CATCHER
Hannah Limmer, Jr., Cooper
Limmer led the Lady Pirates in nearly every major offensive category, batting .473 with 12 home runs, 55 RBIs and 48 runs scored. She cranked 33 extra-base hits en route to her first all-state selection.
DESIGNATED PLAYER
Charlsi Brawley, Jr., Shallowater
An offensive machine, Brawley posted a .634 batting average with 49 RBIs, 41 runs scored and 30 extra-base hits. The junior catcher reached base safely in 73 percent of her plate appearances.
UTILITY
Sunny Williams Jr., Lockney
Williams took to whatever position she played for the Lady Longhorns. She was an infielder and catcher for Lockney and produced at the plate, too. Williams had 39 RBIs, scored 40 runs and 22 extra-base hits in 81 at-bats.
FIRST BASE
Bailee Cowan, Jr., Cooper
The junior batted .405 with 45 hits, 24 RBIs and 31 runs scored. Perhaps even more impressive is the fact she struck out only eight times in 111 at-bats.
SECOND BASE
Sydney Roberts, Jr., Lubbock Christian High
Roberts put together one of the best seasons in Lubbock Christian High softball history, batting .529 with 82 runs scored, 33 RBIs and 15 extra-base hits. She stole 42 bases and was named to the TAPPS 3A all-state first team.
THIRD BASE
Samantha Hawkins, Sr., Roosevelt
Hawkins, an all-state honoree, had a .958 slugging average to lead the Lady Eagles' offense. During district play the senior standout had a .556 average with runners in scoring position.
SHORTSTOP
Brittani Ford, Sr., Tahoka
The senior middle infielder posted impressive numbers across the board. Ford batted .500 with a .569 on-base percentage and a .568 slugging average. She joined teammate Nikki Box on the Class 1A all-state team.
OUTFIELDERS
Blanca Samarripas, Sr., Ralls
The senior started three years in left field and filled in at catcher when the Lady Jackrabbits needed her. Samarripas batted .400 with 31 runs scored, 21 RBIs and 20 stolen bases.
Alyssa Snider, Jr., Littlefield
The junior scored 41 runs and drove in 32 more in just 79 at-bats for the Lady Wildcats. Snider batted .494 with 13 extra-base hits and 21 walks. She struck out only three times all season.
Kalyn Bednarz, Jr., Cooper
Bednarz was a constant threat atop the Cooper lineup, batting .423 with 38 runs scored and 21 RBIs. She stole 16 bases and was caught stealing only twice.
