Heart health theme
of LCHS opener

The Lubbock Christian High softball team will open the 2012 season with a special purpose.

The game — against Abernathy at 4:30 p.m. today — will be designated the “Game of Hearts,” and the teams will raise money for Mended Little Hearts, an organization committed to providing hope, help and healing to heart patients and their families.

Both teams will wear red shirts to show support for heart health.

The cause is of special significance to Abernathy coach Levi Groomer, whose 3-year-old son Liam was born with hypoplastic left heart syndrome. Liam will help throw out the first pitch of the game.

“We’re not going to make a big dent in this financially,” LCHS coach Kelly Robinson said, “but if we can raise some awareness, maybe somebody will see it and can help.”

To make a donation, contact Robinson at (806) 773-8088.
