Lubbock High trounces Monterey in 2-5A opener

The Lubbock High tennis team had little trouble in its District 2-5A opener, routing host Monterey 18-1 on Tuesday.

Max Levine and Grant Norris both won 6-0, 6-0 decisions in boys singles, and the trio of boys doubles teams lost only a combined seven games in the sweep.

Kristen James and Doreen Crasta won in straight sets at the Nos. 1 and 2 girls singles spots, respectively.

Monterey’s lone win came at girls No. 2 doubles, as Jessica Bentley and Kiersten Cox claimed a three-set victory.

Lubbock High has the weekend off and will host Amarillo and Tascosa on Sept. 24. Monterey will do the opposite, facing Amarillo and Tascosa in Amarillo on Saturday.
