The Coronado tennis team is well on its way to another perfect District 2-5A season.
The Mustangs downed Monterey 12-1 on Tuesday before the match was called due to inclement weather.
Coronado’s Karly Garland, Bree Brosig and Payton Scharfenberg all won their singles matches in straight sets, as did Chris Moss, Jackson Schmidt and Matt Henderson on the boys side.
The Mustangs (10-5, 3-0 in district) won all but one doubles match. Monterey’s Peyton Lewallen and Rene Martinez won at No. 3 girls doubles.
Monterey (11-6, 1-2) was coming off a weekend in which it won its first district match since 2009, downing Tascosa on the road 16-3.
The Plainsmen will face Odessa on the road in a non-district match Tuesday, and Coronado will host Lubbock High at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.
■ Frenship
The Tigers lost their first district match of the season Saturday, a 14-5 defeat at the hands of Canyon, but rebounded with a 15-4 win against Hereford.
Frenship won 10 of the 12 singles matches against Hereford and swept girls doubles. Meagan Deleon and partner Camberly Gant staved off a first set loss, as did Tristan Taylor and Ashtyn Kahn.
Hannah Grice and Jacob Lovett won in three sets to claim the mixed doubles point.
The Tigers (8-4, 4-1 in district) will hit the road to face Randall and Caprock on Saturday.
