ODESSA — Monterey’s Megan Waagner won the girls singles, Division B, bracket at the Permian Invitational, and the Plainsmen duo of Billy Jefferson and Evan Geist took home the boys doubles, Division B, championship on Saturday to highlight Monterey’s weekend.
Frenship’s Claire Tisdale lost to Waagner to take second. Other second-place finishers included Frenship’s Brittany McClelland and Landon Hope in the mixed doubles, Division A, competition and Monterey’s Kiersten Cox in the Division A girls singles finals, Monterey’s Alex Jeffries in the boys singles, Division B, bracket. The Lady Plainsmen tandem of Emily Sims and Mercedes Cruz were runners up in the girls doubles, Division B, group.
Third-place finishers included Monterey’s Rene Martinez and Julia Hurtado (girls doubles, B Division).

■ AMBUCS Tournament
Despite solid pitching from Aaliyah Alonzo and Abbi White, the Cooper softball team dropped its final two games of the Lubbock AMBUCS Tournament on Saturday.
Alonzo allowed one earned run and struck out six, also going 2 for 3 from the plate with two RBIs, as Cooper beat Lubbock High 10-2 in its first game of the day. Marcie Kissko had a double and home run for Lubbock High.
Coronado’s Quinn Forner hit a go-ahead two-run home run in the fourth inning of a five-inning game to lift Coronado to a 3-2 victory against Cooper in the semifinals.
Midland Lee then defeated Cooper 3-2 in the third-place game. White, who went 2 for 3 against the Lady Rebels, was saddled with the loss in each of the final two games.
Frenship and Coronado met for the championship late Saturday.
Cooper plays at Snyder at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
